Grimsby is Getting a New Look

Help us shape the new brand for our Town!

Why Are We Talking About Branding? 🤔

Think of branding like your personal style. It’s more than just the clothes you wear (that’s the logo). It’s your personality, your values, the way you carry yourself, and the impression you leave behind.

Right now, Grimsby shows up with a crest and a corporate logo - they do the job, but they don’t tell our whole story. Our story is bigger, brighter, and bursting with potential.

That’s why we’re kicking off a Branding Project. To create an identity that feels 100% Grimsby.

The Big Idea 💡

A fresh brand will:

  • Celebrate our history and unique character
  • Spark curiosity in visitors
  • Attract businesses and new opportunities
  • Bring our community together with pride

And the timing? Couldn’t be better. With new signs, facilities, and parks on the horizon, it makes sense to get our brand right now.

What Exactly Is a Brand?

Great question! A brand isn’t just a logo. It’s a promise. It’s how people feel about Grimsby.

Here’s what makes up a brand:
🌈 Identity — colours, logos, fonts, design
🌟 Values — what we believe in and stand for
😃 Personality — how we “show up” (friendly? innovative? welcoming?)
🎉 Experience — how people interact with us, from parks to programs
💬 Reputation — the impression we leave behind

Together, these elements create the story of Grimsby.

How We’ll Get There 🛠️

This isn’t a top-down project - it’s a community story. We’ll be asking for ideas and feedback from:

  • Residents
  • Town Staff
  • Town Council
  • Local businesses
  • Committees & Boards
  • Community Groups (across all facets)
  • Sports Associations
  • Schools
  • Churches

Together with a professional consultant, we’ll shape a brand that feels authentic, modern, and forward-thinking.

The Payoff 🌟

When all is said and done, our new brand will:

  • Show the world what makes Grimsby unique
  • Help us stand out from other towns in the region
  • Celebrate our history and our future
  • Inspire civic pride
  • Support growth, tourism, and investment

In short: It’s time to tell Grimsby’s story in a way that truly feels like us.

And don't worry! The Town’s historic Crest will not be abolished - in fact, it will be elevated, given even greater prominence, and carry even more clout as a proud symbol of our community.

Take the Survey!

Help us shape the Town’s future brand by sharing your thoughts in our community survey below. This is your chance to tell our story, highlight what makes Grimsby special, and ensure our identity reflects the community we’re proud to call home.

The survey closes on October 26. This is your chance to help write our Town’s next chapter and help shape Grimsby’s new identity. Take the survey today and have your say!

Collectively, we'll shape and share our community's story.

    Question 1

Thank you for sharing your questions on this project. We understand you may not be supportive of the project, and we respect your perspective. From our side, we believe this project is an important and necessary investment for the community. While we may not agree, we hope we can maintain mutual respect for each other’s views and for the decisions made.

Since we’re talking about the Branding Project, we thought it might be helpful to share a bit more about what it is and why it matters. The project is all about capturing what makes Grimsby special and creating a fresh, consistent look that represents who we are as a community. A brand is what people think and feel when they hear the name “Grimsby.” It’s the pride, the sense of place, the energy, and the people who make this town what it is. This project is our opportunity to take ownership of our story and define it with the community.

A strong brand helps unify our community. It helps residents see themselves reflected in the story of Grimsby, and it helps others – visitors, businesses, and future residents – understand what makes this town special. It paints a picture of our community that encourages economic development, tourism, and civic pride.

From an organizational perspective, it also helps the Town – as an employer and as a service provider, communicate consistently and clearly. A brand is not just a logo or a tagline. It’s how we show up – the way we engage with residents, the way we serve the community, and the way we represent Grimsby to the world.

    Question 2

The budget for this project is $60,000.

    Question 3

We’ve worked hard to reach all corners of our community and we’re very proud of how broadly we’ve been able to engage our community throughout this process — from local businesses and not-for-profit organizations across every facet, to sports groups and clubs, faith communities, boards, committees, and especially our youth. It’s been important to us to ensure that every part of our community has had the opportunity to participate and share their voice.

    Question 4

Measuring ROI on a branding project isn’t always strictly quantitative, because the value comes from building recognition, trust, and engagement over time. Strong branding supports everything else we do – from attracting investment and visitors to strengthening community pride and participation. Over time, those factors contribute directly to economic and social benefits.

At the end of this project, the Town will have a full brand identity, including a logo and a brand story that truly represents who we are today. Our refreshed logo will offer a new look that provides a consistent, modern, and professional presence across all platforms – from signage and vehicles to digital communications and community events. A clear and cohesive visual identity not only strengthens how we present ourselves to residents, visitors, and partners, but also supports effective operations by ensuring all Town materials are unified, recognizable, and aligned with our shared vision for Grimsby.

    Question 5

We understand some residents may not agree with the project, and we respect that. Staff spent a great deal of time reviewing the information, weighing the options, and considering what will best serve our community in the long term. It was a collective and informed decision, made with the Town’s best interests in mind and endorsed by Town Council.

How do I get involved to make a difference in this Town or volunteer in Grimbsy's events or projects?

Bella asked about 1 month ago

Thanks for the great question! There are many ways to get involved and make a positive impact in our community! From volunteering at Town events to participating in local projects, your time and ideas can help shape Grimsby’s future.

If you’re a young person interested in having a voice and contributing to meaningful discussions, consider applying to the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee (MYAC). MYAC provides a platform for youth to share their perspectives, participate in decision-making, and help influence initiatives that affect our community.

    To learn more, visit https://www.grimsby.ca/town-hall/boards-and-committees/mayors-youth-advisory-committee/

The Town’s Leader in Training (LIT) program is a volunteer opportunity for youth to gain hands-on experience by helping in camps, activities, and aquatic programs. You’ll assist staff with activities, setup, and cleanup. Check the Summer Leisure Guide for posting information and how to apply.
