What Community Engagement Means
The people that know the community best are those that live here, work here and play here. Often community discussions occur on social media channels, but without knowing where some of those conversations happen, all of that good information does not get utilized towards informing decision making. The purpose of community engagement is to gather perspectives for decision makers, which then inform the decision making process. It means that the Town will seek and listen to feedback before making decisions.
Benefits of Community Engagement
Community Engagement provides a valuable link between Council, Committees, Municipal staff and the community. It offers a range of benefits, including, but not limited to:
Improving Council’s decision-making process by taking into account a greater range of perspectives, experience, and knowledge
Ensuring that diverse voices are heard
Encouraging greater community participation
Creating a space where residents can provide their feedback at a time that is convenient for them
Creating a project information area where good and consistent information can be shared, added to and updated
Creating a better connected, and informed community
What Community Engagement Does Not Mean
What community engagement does not mean is that everyone will always agree on decisions that are made within the Municipality. Grimsby is made up of a diverse population with very different interests and approaches to what Grimsby is and how to improve the community. What we will do, is listen to all of those different opinions and incorporate them into the decision-making process, in a fair and balanced way.
