September 9-11: Night work resumes on Main Street

DOWNTOWN REIMAGINED UPDATE: NIGHT WORK CONTINUES ON MAIN STREET FROM SEPTEMBER 9–11

Night work continues on Main Street from Wednesday, September 9 through Friday, September 11 as crews work through unexpected conditions uncovered beneath the road.

While installing the new watermain, crews discovered remnants of Grimsby’s old rail line, along with existing utilities and sandy ground conditions. These conditions require the watermain to be shifted closer to the centre of the road, meaning a lane cannot safely remain open while work is underway.

What to expect:
Crews will begin setting up at approximately 8 p.m. each night, with Main Street reopening by 6 a.m. the following morning.

Leaving downtown after 8 p.m.?
Customers and staff leaving downtown businesses can still be accommodated using the paved lane. A crew member will be on-site to help everyone safely exit.

Travelling through downtown?
Please follow the posted traffic and detour plans while night work is underway.

Progress will be reassessed at the end of the week, and we’ll share what’s next as soon as details are confirmed.

Thank you for your patience while this vital work continues.
