Downtown Reimagined Project Update – September 4, 2026
Night work at the Main Street and Elm Street intersection wraps up by 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning, marking another step forward for Downtown Reimagined. After Wednesday’s storms delayed work by one night, crews are completing the remaining scheduled work moving East out of the intersection tonight before continuing East along Main Street.
There will be no construction on Monday, September 7, for the Labour Day holiday. Beginning Tuesday, September 8, crews will return to daytime hours and begin watermain installation on Main Street East between Elm Street and Kingsway Boulevard, continuing toward Robinson Street North.
Work in the Balsam Lane Public Parking Lot will also resume Tuesday, September 8, and is expected to be completed by the end of the day.
THE 60-SECOND RUNDOWN: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 7
Construction
- Night work at Main Street and Elm Street wraps up this weekend following a one-night weather delay.
- No construction will take place Monday, September 7, for the Labour Day holiday
- Beginning Tuesday, September 8, crews will return to daytime hours and begin watermain installation on Main Street East between Elm Street and Kingsway Boulevard, continuing toward Robinson Street North.
- Work in the Balsam Lane Public Parking Lot also resumes Tuesday, September 8 and is expected to wrap up by the end of the day.
- Once crews reach Robinson Street North, the contractor will move directly into the watermain work on Rossmore Avenue. This work was originally planned closer to the end of the project but work in the area has been shifted earlier since equipment and materials are already in the area.
Traffic Plan
Beginning Tuesday, September 8:
- Main Street East through the work zone will be open to one-way eastbound traffic toward Beamsville.
- Local traffic and access to businesses will be maintained in both directions outside the active work zone.
- Westbound travel toward downtown will be restricted beyond Kingsway Boulevard to start the week, and as crews move East it will be restricted to Robinson Street
- Signed detour routes will guide through traffic around the work zone.
- A temporary full road closure will be required at the Rossmore Avenue and Main Street intersection when construction reaches that area.

A LOOK BACK
Week of August 31 Construction Recap
Crews made significant progress at the Main Street and Elm Street intersection this week, working overnight since Monday. Due to Wednesday’s storms, work at the Main & Elm intersection will continue tonight, Friday, September 4th, from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
Work is expected to wrap Saturday morning, and roads will reopen and will remain accessible. Once the remaining scheduled work is complete, the primary installations within the intersection will be finished. Final connections to the existing watermain and private properties will take place once the new watermain has been tested and put into service.
Crews will then shift east along Main Street toward Kingsway Boulevard.
