Downtown Reimagined Project Update – August 28, 2026
Watermain installation has now reached the Main Street and Elm Street intersection, and next week the Downtown Reimagined project moves into its next stage: four nights of overnight construction within the intersection.
This past week, crews completed the watermain branch at Oak Street, continued installing water services along Elm Street and began watermain installation along Balsam Lane. Work on Balsam Lane was paused when crews encountered an unmarked hydro line and could not proceed without the required underground utility locates.
As a result, the planned watermain and service installation within the Balsam Lane Public Parking Lot has been postponed. The parking lot remains open and accessible while the work is rescheduled.
Starting Monday, August 31, the Main and Elm intersection will close overnight from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, while crews install watermain and services within the intersection. Completing this work overnight will help keep crews safe while limiting impacts on businesses and daytime traffic.

Week of August 24 Construction Recap
Crews completed watermain installation up to the Main and Elm intersection this past week, along with the watermain branch at Oak Street. They also began installing the watermain along Balsam Lane.
Work on Balsam Lane was paused Wednesday after crews encountered an unmarked hydro line that needed to be located before installation could continue. As a result, the planned watermain and service installation within the Balsam Lane Public Parking Lot did not proceed Thursday.
The parking lot reopened Thursday night and remains accessible. Work will be rescheduled once the required underground utility locates are received.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported this downtown series, led by the Downtown Grimsby BIA in partnership with the Grimsby Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Grimsby and the Downtown Reimagined Project.
The Construction StoryWalk also closes out its run today, August 28.
Downtown Businesses Construction Virtual Session
On Wednesday, the Downtown Reimagined project team hosted a virtual information session for downtown businesses covering the upcoming work in the Balsam Lane Public Parking Lot, construction at the Main and Elm intersection and the next stage of work along Main Street East.
Thank you to everyone who joined us. The virtual session was another way we’re keeping the business community informed as construction progresses. If you weren’t able to attend, a recording and meeting summary will be shared through the Let’s Talk Grimsby project page next week.
NEXT STEPS
We recognize that a project of this scale brings temporary changes to daily routines, and we remain committed to providing clear, timely communication throughout construction.
Our goal is to make this process as predictable and manageable as possible while delivering long-term improvements that will benefit residents, businesses, and visitors for generations to come.
