Downtown Reimagined Project Update – August 14, 2026

Crews are getting closer to Main Street East as work continues to move along Elm Street.

This week, crews are installing the new watermain, sanitary laterals, water service connections, a valve chamber and a new fire hydrant — another step forward in replacing and upgrading critical downtown infrastructure.

Traffic remains open with single-lane operation during working hours. Paid duty police officers and contractor flag persons continue to help manage traffic safely near the Elm Street and Mountain Street intersection.

Temporary driveway closures may be required near TD Bank and GBF Plaza as work progresses. Affected businesses and property owners will receive advance notice.

Looking ahead: Next week, crews will continue east toward Main Street East, with a focus on watermain and water service installations.

And while construction continues, there’s still plenty happening downtown! Comedy Nights continue every Wednesday in August, Music in the Park runs through August 20, the Construction StoryWalk continues through August 28, Movies in the Park returns August 28, and the Construction Passport runs through September 30.

A LOOK BACK

Week of August 10 Construction Recap

  • Crews made steady progress on Elm Street east of Mountain Street, with the week's work focused on installing the new watermain, completing sanitary lateral connections, installing new water service connections, constructing a water valve chamber, and installing a new fire hydrant as work advanced toward Main Street East.
  • Because that work was close to the Mountain Street and Elm Street intersection, paid duty police officers continued to assist with traffic management to keep motorists and crews safe.
  • Traffic remained open through the zone with single-lane operation during working hours, with contractor flag persons managing alternating traffic to maintain a steady, safe flow of vehicles.
  • Temporary driveway access closures may have been required near the TD Bank and GBF Plaza as watermain installation progressed; affected businesses and property owners received advance notice before any closures.
