FAQs
What is a Transportation Master Plan?
A transportation master plan is a long-term planning document that is adopted by the Town to guide the planning, design and implementation of transportation infrastructure, maintenance, operations, and policies. A master plan does not authorize the construction of new projects, but identifies a network of improvements and a blueprint of support to achieve the Town’s vision and goals and accommodate anticipated growth over the next 20+ years.
What parts of Grimsby does this project include?
The TMP is being developed for the entire Town of Grimsby including the urban and rural areas of the Town, with a focus on roads that are under the jurisdiction of the Town. The plan will consider the role of Niagara Regional Roads and Provincial Highways (i.e., QEW), as well as GO Transit as part of a connected network, and identify coordination opportunities with Niagara Region, the Province, and associated agencies, these will be secondary to corridors the Town owns and operates.
What is the project timeline?
The Recreational Trails Master Plan is scheduled to be completed by Winter 2025
Why is Grimsby developing a Transportation Master Plan?
This will be the first major transportation study completed by the Town in over 20 years, and given the considerable recent and planned growth, it is important for the Town of Grimsby to examine how it can best accommodate this growth while ensuring a flourishing urban environment, protect natural areas, and achieve other Town policy goals in the short, medium, and long term. Developing a Transportation Master Plan is also an opportunity to build on the recently adopted Recreational Trails Master Plan, and to coordinate with the ongoing Official Plan Review.
